The story

A world-changing Hungarian idea worth over 100 billion forints after two years. The essence of Smartkas in short: greener farming. In the Smartkas project, Dávid Mészáros and his team design and build green, renewable smart greenhouses and indoor farms, combining the two in one solution. But the brand is not about greenhouses as a product, but about food security as a service.

The development is made up of four technological components: glass, which is transparent but protective; the water system, which is water-positive; the technology, which gives the plants just enough carbon dioxide they can absorb, but as the carbon dioxide is not released into the air at all, it is completely carbon neutral; and the fourth is the software that controls it all. Thanks to all this, you can grow more than 50 different kinds of fruit and vegetables all year round, 24 hours a day, in any climate, without chemicals. Smartkas can thus establish sustainable, green agriculture anywhere in the world with just a few people. One of the cornerstones of their service is to ensure that the interests of small-scale farmers are not compromised. That’s why Smartkas focuses on products that are not produced in the relevant area. They always produce something that does not exist in the given area or that there is not enough of that particular product. Alternatively, they produce in the off-season when small farmers are not producing anything.

The details

Our company was given the honourable task to create the brand strategy and new website for the start-up, which was launched in a very professional manner, and to be involved in the product development and user flow ux/ui processes.

The two-year old start-up currently has four active projects – two in the Netherlands, one in the UK and one in Brazil – and thirteen development projects, five or six of which will be in Hungary and Central and Eastern Europe. As for the Hungarian plans, Dávid Mészáros said that the development will be carried out in cooperation with large companies, and will be fully automated, typically horizontal and huge smart glass houses.

In addition, design and engineering work is underway in the Middle East, where the CEO’s vision is not to build small farms but a large one, on the triple border of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

We believe that value-creating businesses like Smartkas are leading the way for trend-following companies to create and operate a business model and useful, society-shaping systems.
